Vehicle Safety Systems

Bigger than Airbags

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration estimates that airbags save approximately 3,000 lives per year in the US, whereas drunk drivers with blood alcohol levels above the legal limit cost approximately 13,000 lives per year.

With statistics like that in mind, NHTSA has teamed up with the Automotive Coalition for Traffic Safety and most of the major players in the automotive industry to fund the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety or DADSS program.

Following an extensive engineering review of existing and emerging technologies, the DADSS program selected TruTouch's as one of only three global technologies for developmental funding. With DADSS, TruTouch is working to develop an intoxication sensing system that will be as seamless, unobtrusive, and cost-effective as other automotive safety systems.

TruTouch is also working to develop systems for commercial vehicles ranging from forklifts to locomotives to oil tankers; systems which will help avoid everything from "the next Exxon Valdez" to many of the 100,000 forklift injuries and fatalities that occur each year.

Welcome to a Safer World
